We are a loose collection of academics, designers, journalists, artists, filmmakers, architects and designers and urban culture practitioners who share an interest in exploring our own perspectives on urban life in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Together and individually we create exhibitions, produce books, films and events that present a unique perspective about the city in the most populous and marginalized majority world. We love good ideas and see ourselves as advocates for grounded action. We seek to facilitate an understanding of right context to enable processing and action on transformative ideas that will build equitable and just cities in the global south. Our flagship projects are the hybrid journal/magazine publication Cityscapes

While urgent urban challenges such as informality, joblessness, and inequality are concentrated in (but not unique to) the global South, much of the discourse on how to address these challenges is shaped by perspectives far removed from these realities, reflecting the dominance of Western Europe and North America in the formal knowledge-production system

Our goal is to shift the common reference points in the urban discourses to the South. From our original bi-annual print publication format, Cityscapes has evolved into an increasingly collaborative and multi- faceted platform advocating for recognition of new urban voices and ideas from and about the global South.

We believe that a strong and independent Southern and alternative voice on urban issues critically needed in this moment of transition to re-set the terms in which the future of cities globally is being determined. We are one of many of these critical voices
